About this tool

PDF to Word extracts text, headings, paragraphs, and document structure from a PDF and compiles them into a standard Microsoft Word OpenXML (.docx) file. Everything is processed directly in your browser memory on your computer or phone. Your confidential documents are never transmitted to an external server.

When to use it

  • Extract text and headings while preserving paragraph flow and page breaks
  • Copy and cite content from research papers or study assignments in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice
  • Convert confidential contracts, financial summaries, or private notes without third-party server logging

How to use it

To convert a PDF to Word

  1. Select Choose File and pick a PDF document from your device.
  2. The tool instantly analyzes the document and displays the word count, paragraph count, and a live text preview.
  3. Select your desired formatting style:
    • Flowing text (Recommended for editing): reconstructs paragraphs, headings, and page breaks for natural editing in Microsoft Word.
    • Preserve original line breaks: preserves line-by-line visual positioning from the PDF.

  5. Press Convert and download Word document (.docx) to save the editable document.

Questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to any server?

No. Unlike commercial cloud converters, Plain CS processes documents entirely on your client device using browser memory. Nothing is transmitted across the internet.

Which software can open the converted file?

The resulting .docx file is a standard OpenXML document compatible with Microsoft Word (desktop and web), Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, Apple Pages, WPS Office, and all major word processors.

Can I convert scanned or image-only PDFs?

This tool extracts selectable, machine-readable text layers. If a PDF is a photograph or physical scan without selectable text (where you cannot highlight words with your mouse), the exported file will indicate that no text layer was detected. Scanned documents require Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

Does it preserve tables and multi-column magazine layouts?

Text and headings within columns are extracted in logical reading order. Complex multi-column graphic spreads and overlapping design elements will flow into clean sequential paragraphs for easier text editing.
